Last Sunday, Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry reaffirmed Taiwan’s commitment to collaborate with the U.S., Japan, South Korea, and other like-minded countries to maintain peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. The response was made following the joint statement released by U.S. President Joe Biden, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol commemorating the first anniversary of the Camp David Summit.

In the joint statement, the leaders reaffirmed their commitment to jointly tackle regional challenges and maintain peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific. In addition, they also emphasized the deepening of partnerships in security, technology, and economic fields following the principles on trilateral cooperation established the previous year to “achieve our shared goals of advancing security and prosperity for the region and the world.”

The Foreign Ministry responded, pointing out that security in the Indo-Pacific region is an important concern to the international community as shown by the number of recent high-level meetings and dialogues such as the U.S.-Japan-South Korea Trilateral Chiefs of Defense Meeting, the U.S.-Philippine-Japan Summit, and the Australia-U.S. Ministerial Consultations. The ministry underscored Taiwan’s stance to jointly safeguard peace, stability, and prosperity in the Taiwan Strait and the Indo-Pacific region with like-minded countries.
