Taiwan’s Health Minister Chiu Tai-yuan (邱泰源) called for collective efforts to strengthen global health security on Friday while attending a biomedical forum. Chiu also emphasized the importance of expanding biomedical cooperation within the Pacific region.

The Biomedical Strategic Collaborative Forum in Asia Pacific was co-hosted by the Taiwan Vietnam Medical Biotech Association, the Vietnam Health Economics Association, and the Canadian Trade Office in Taipei.

In support of Taiwan’s New Southbound Policy, the Health Ministry launched the One Country, One Center (1C1C) initiative in 2018. The strategy focuses on Indonesia, India, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, and Malaysia. It involves six Taiwanese hospitals leading efforts in healthcare talent training, industry collaboration, and creating culturally friendly healthcare environments.

During his address, Minister Chiu praised the increasing participation of domestic medical centers in the 1C1C initiative, noting its impact on global health security. Chiu also highlighted the significance of cooperation in the Pacific region and expressed his support for ongoing efforts in this field.

Deputy Economic Affairs Minister Ching-Chang Lien (連錦漳) also emphasized Taiwan’s strengths in healthcare and medical device research, noting the international recognition of Taiwan’s research capabilities. He highlighted recent collaborations between Taiwanese and Vietnamese hospitals involving AI technology and says that Taiwan will continue to contribute to global health through its biomedical advancements.
