This Tuesday marks President Lai Ching-te’s (賴清德) 100th day in office. Lai commemorated the milestone with an animated video, “Our First 100 Days,” featuring his newly adopted dog, Taiwanese Olympic athletes, and a focus on the future.
In the video, President Lai first introduces his new family member, the 3-year-old dog Ban Ban, who had her front leg amputated after getting caught in a hunting trap. Lai explained that although walking is difficult for Ban Ban, her eyes are full of hope, and she never gives up.
Gold-medalist boxer Lin Yu-ting (林郁婷), badminton star Tai Tzu-ying (戴資穎), and weightlifter Kuo Hsing-chun (郭婞淳) are among the many Olympians to be featured in the video. Lai underlined the courage and perseverance of the athletes, honoring them for overcoming various challenges and bringing glory to Taiwan.
Lai says the government will work just as hard as the rest of the nation to face challenges head-on as a democracy, bravely persevering and moving forward with determination. Lai added that Taiwan has become an indispensable pillar of the world, and that it is his honor to serve a democratic, peaceful, and prosperous nation. He says these 100 days are only the beginning.
