In a speech at the opening ceremony of SEMICON Taiwan 2024, Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) said that Taiwan will continue to embrace AI, and work to establish an AI era with Taiwanese elements.
SEMICON Taiwan 2024 opened on Wednesday, attracting an estimated 85,000 visitors from 56 countries. Premier Cho and Economic Minister J.W. Kuo (郭智輝) attended the opening ceremony, where the Premier delivered a speech. He expressed gratitude for the recognition of Taiwan’s role in the high-tech semiconductor industry chain and reiterated the government’s dedication to fulfilling its responsibilities.
Cho says the AI era will inevitably change our daily lives and that Taiwan is well prepared to integrate AI applications in government and private departments with the goal of greater world connectivity. He says that semiconductors and AI are the two most crucial of President Lai Ching-te’s (賴清德) Five Trusted Industry sectors adding that the government has allocated budgets for continued development. Cho says as national policies evolve they will include other adjustments like looser restrictions and new standards with the ultimate goal of establishing a Taiwan-influenced AI era.
To grow the talent pool for this goal, Cho says the government will use the Overseas Study Dream Program to send outstanding students abroad to learn more advanced technologies.
Cho closed by saying Taiwan will uphold its responsibilities on the global stage striving for closer cooperation with other nations, further talent development, and advancements in industry and technology.
