Hotel operator Fleur de Chine (FDC) announced that it has become the first in Taiwan’s tourism industry to implement three-day weekends for its employees. The trial run will be rolled out over the next six months at their Sun Moon Lake location, after which further implementation will be determined based on trial results.
FDC issued a press release explaining that the newest generation of employees has an increasing need for work-life balance. They also pointed out that workplace culture has undergone tremendous changes since the pandemic. Representatives said their three-day weekend policy was put forth in response.
The Fleur de Chine Hotel at Sun Moon Lake is also undergoing renovations to upgrade the employee restaurant and lounge areas, and a second employee dormitory is expected to be built on land recently purchased.
FDC Chairman Emile Sheng (盛治仁) quoted Infosys founder Narayana Murthy’s words stating that a company’s best assets walk out of the door each evening, and it’s the company’s responsibility to make sure they come back the next morning. Sheng said he and his team believe the three-day weekends can improve employee job satisfaction, work efficiency, and creativity, and that this will eventually result in better customer service.
