G7 foreign ministers met in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly to discuss global issues, including the situation in Taiwan. The group reaffirmed that peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait are crucial for international security and prosperity. They also expressed support for Taiwan’s meaningful participation in international organizations, advocating for its inclusion as a member where participation is not limited by statehood, and as an observer or guest where it is.

The ministers maintained their existing positions on Taiwan, including the “One China” policy, without any changes. In a separate meeting, the foreign ministers of the United States, Japan, and South Korea also emphasized the importance of peace in the Taiwan Strait. They called for a peaceful resolution of cross-strait issues and strongly opposed any unilateral attempts to change the status quo in the Indo-Pacific waters.

Taiwan's Foreign Ministry’s Spokesperson, Jeff Liu (劉永健) says that Taiwan will continue to cooperate with like-minded countries to maintain peace, stability, and prosperity in the Taiwan Strait and the region. He emphasized the commitment to upholding a rules-based international order and fostering a free, open, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.

Recently, more countries have expressed their support for peace in the Taiwan Strait. This support has been demonstrated through forums such as the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue and the UK-US Strategic Dialogue.
