Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) spoke at the 2024 Taiwan AI Academy Annual Conference opening ceremony on Friday, saying that the government must plan ahead to meet the challenges and opportunities presented by AI.

Hsiao pointed out that since taking office she has learned the top complaints across many different industries, the first being a lack of jobs, and the second the lack of talent. She elaborated that many labor shortage problems can be solved with AI and expressed her gratitude to the Taiwan AI Academy for training more than 11,000 talents for 2,000 companies since its founding in 2018.

The vice president also stated that the international community is very positive and optimistic about Taiwan's cutting-edge industries, including the chip industry, and advanced manufacturing processes, among others. However, she said that, as President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) often mentions, the country's overall economic development strategy must include balanced, inclusive development, and that Taiwan’s industries need to grow together.

The Taiwan AI Academy Annual Conference, open on September 27 and 28 in Taipei, gathers thousands of experts every year and, with this year's theme of "Using AI in All Industries," hopes to enhance the country’s competitiveness and build Taiwan into an AI society.
