Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) says the government remains vigilant as tensions in the Taiwan Strait continue to evolve. His comments followed China's "Joint Sword - 2024B" military drills, which lasted over 10 hours. Speaking at the Legislature on Tuesday, Cho stated the government is closely monitoring the situation and is prepared for any potential escalation.
China's military exercises began unexpectedly early Monday without prior notice. Cho says this presents a serious challenge to regional peace and stability, threatening Taiwan while also disrupting international air and sea traffic, which has drawn concern from other nations.
Responding to criticism that a recent national security meeting convened by President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) was merely for show, Cho dismissed the claims, stating that such meetings are a responsible part of government operations. He reassured the public that maintaining calm and minimizing economic impact remain the government’s priorities.
Cho added that officials are closely monitoring the situation, including stock market fluctuations, and are fully prepared for any future developments.
