National Security Bureau (NSB) Director-General Tsai Ming-yen (蔡明彥) reported to the Legislature on Wednesday that China is utilizing a “comprehensive” approach to intimidate Taiwan.
China has intensified its “reunification” tactics since President Lai Ching-te's (賴清德) inauguration on May 20. Aside from expanding its military presence in the Taiwan Strait, East China Sea, and South China Sea, China has also heightened military pressure with "Joint Sword" and "Joint Combat Readiness Patrols" demonstrating a new "military-police integrated" framework.
In addition, Tsai pointed out that China is simultaneously integrating economic, diplomatic, and legal tactics. As an example, he referred to the distortion of UN General Assembly Resolution 2758 to hinder Taiwan's participation in international organizations. He also highlighted China’s recent interpretation of its Anti-Secession Law (ASL) to include 22 articles that criminalize and punish leaders and advocates of Taiwan independence.
Tsai reassured that the NSB is collaborating with global security agencies to gather strategic intelligence and counter Chinese infiltration efforts, aiming to safeguard Taiwan's national security and interests.
