The Immigration Department held a press conference on Friday to mark the launch of The Power of New Immigrants (新住民心力量) program, broadcast in collaboration with Radio Taiwan International (Rti) and hosted on public radio. The program is aimed to help new immigrants access information on helpful policies, cultural exchange, and everyday life in Taiwan.
Interior Minister Liu Shyh-fang (劉世芳) pointed out that the ministry continues to offer means of support to new immigrants including access to useful media. She hopes that the Power of New Immigrants program will provide a window into the lives of new residents of Taiwan. Liu also said that in the future, they would be open to hosting public opinion representatives or diplomatic envoys on the show to give their suggestions on supportive policy or to share their life experiences. She closed by saying that the ministry looks forward to such exchanges, with the goal of both promoting Taiwan and making it a more diverse and welcoming country.
Several international hosts from Rti also attended the opening ceremony, including personnel from the station’s Indonesian, Thai, Filipino, English, and Vietnamese departments– notably all “new residents” of Taiwan themselves. Rti Chairperson Cheryl Lai (賴秀如) said that radio reaches not only the mind but also the heart. Rti will rise to meet the challenge of program production with the same high standards and hosting excellence that it strives for in all its programming.
The Power of New Residents radio program will be broadcast every Friday and Saturday at 2:00 p.m. from October 18 onwards on FM104.9.
