Kaohsiung City is preparing for an extraordinary Halloween celebration, with Mayor Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) making an appearance as a vampire alongside children's entertainer Chao Tzu-chiang (趙自強) as Granny Fruity Pie, at a city council meeting at the Net Zero Institute.

The pair handed out candy to children and teased that this year’s Halloween celebrations would feature a surprise—a giant pumpkin even larger than the famous yellow duck, though other details remain under wraps. Mayor Chen says Kaohsiung is a city that "doesn't play by conventional rules," promising surprises that will amaze visitors.

The giant pumpkin, which stands at an impressive 22-meter-tall, was inflated on Tuesday, and starting Friday will be on at Aozihdi Forest Park alongside a nightly laser light show from 7 to 9 p.m.

A grand Halloween parade is scheduled for Saturday, featuring an impressive lineup of performers including an Australian art troupe, local television animated characters, and the popular Mikan, the Station Master mascot. Over 50 local performers, national skating champions, and the beloved Kaohsiung Bear mascot will join the festivities. The combination of international performers, local talents, and impressive installations is set to make Kaohsiung's 2024 Halloween celebration an unforgettable event.
