The 29th Conference of the Parties (COP 29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change  (UNFCCC) is scheduled to take place in Baku, Azerbaijan, in mid-November. The Foreign Ministry has stated that Taiwan should not be excluded for any political reasons. They urged all countries to support Taiwan's professional, pragmatic, and contributory participation in COP29. This was conveyed by Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Jeff Liu (劉永健) during a press conference on Tuesday.

Liu emphasized that no nation is exempt from the impacts of climate change. He pointed out that the mechanisms established to address climate change, such as the UNFCCC and the Paris Agreement, should not exclude Taiwan for political reasons.

He highlighted that Taiwan actively takes on international responsibilities, just like other countries, and that excluding Taiwan from participation would be a loss for the world.
