Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) led a delegation to visit Belize, one of Taiwan’s diplomatic allies. In a press release, the Foreign Ministry stated that it had witnessed the profound friendship and fruitful cooperation between the two countries over its 35 years of official diplomatic ties.

On Wednesday, Lin had breakfast with Belize Prime Minister Johnny Briceño, during which they exchanged views on the progress of bilateral cooperation plans and future directions. After the meeting, they took a flight to Belize’s outer islands where they oversaw the construction of the San Pedro Hospital funded by Taiwan.

The Foreign Ministry further shared that Lin held bilateral talks with Belizean Foreign Minister Francis Fonseca and attended the reception celebrating 35 years of diplomatic relations between Belize and Taiwan. When speaking with Fonseca, Lin thanked Belize for its continued support of Taiwan's meaningful participation in the UN, World Health Organization (WHO), and other international organizations. They also discussed collaborative plans between the two countries, including infrastructure, public health, medical care, agriculture, environmental sustainability, information technology, culture, education, and women's empowerment.

The Foreign Ministry expressed its anticipation of further exchanges and cooperation between Taiwan and Belize in terms of carbon rights, ecological conservation and green tourism, as well as working towards conservation and sustainable utilization of global marine resources.
