As financial technology is fast becoming a focal point for innovation globally, the FinTech Taipei 2024 expo, organized jointly by Taiwan's Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC), Taiwan Financial Services Roundtable, and Taiwan Academy of Banking and Finance, kicked off to much fanfare this Thursday. This year’s theme is “Smart Finance, Sustainable Future: More than FinTech,” which echoes President Lai Ching-te’s (賴清德) initiatives to promote industrialization and integration of AI across all sectors.

The rise of artificial intelligence has driven significant shifts within the financial industry. This year’s expo features an international summit, focusing on three key themes: AI transformation, AI governance, and AI implementation.

In the two-day showcase of innovations, over 200 financial institutions and startups from 12 countries are participating including companies from the U.S., the U.K., Canada, Australia, France, Switzerland, Lithuania, Japan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, South Korea, and Israel. Vice Premier Cheng Li-chun (鄭麗君) and FSC Chairperson Peng Jin-lung (彭金隆) were among those present at the opening ceremony.

In her address, Cheng noted that Taiwan’s financial sector has seen a growth of 30% in fintech investments this year. She further highlighted the government’s commitment to foster growth through technological innovation, financial creativity, and talent development to boost the next wave of economic momentum.
