Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) welcomed Paraguayan Senate President Basilio Núñez Giménez and a high-level cross-party delegation on Tuesday, thanking them for their strong support amid China's recent military exercises around Taiwan.
President Lai thanked Paraguayan President Santiago Peña Palacios and the Paraguayan government for their long-term support for Taiwan’s international participation. He acknowledged that Paraguay advocated for Taiwan during the recent UN Summit of the Future and General Assembly, saying this strengthens the bond between the two countries.
Lai says that Taiwan and Paraguay share the values of democracy and freedom. He says he hopes that Senate President Núñez Giménez and his delegation can continue to support Taiwan and fight against authoritarian expansion, protect shared values, and promote democracy, peace, and prosperity.
Lai says that Taiwan and Paraguay have been cooperating in fields such as education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, and women’s empowerment and expresses optimism for the continued development of impactful projects that would benefit both nations.
