Taiwan’s Economics Minister J.W. Kuo (郭智輝) said on Wednesday that the Economics Ministry is preparing for the possible economic impact of the U.S election results. However, he added that relations between Taiwan and the U.S. are strong and unlikely to change.
Kuo and National Development Council Chair Paul Liu (劉鏡清) gave a special report at the Legislature’s Economics Committee on Wednesday. In response to media questions about Taiwan’s preparedness for the U.S. election result, Kuo said that the ministry is making preparations for the impact the election results may have on Taiwan. He says Taiwan and the U.S. have deep economic ties, adding that he believes changes to Taiwan’s economy would only be minor, no matter which candidate wins the election.
Kuo also responded to recent foreign media reports stating that Elon Musk’s space exploration technology company, SpaceX, requires Taiwanese suppliers to move manufacturing operations out of Taiwan. Kuo says that since foreign media have reported this matter, the Economics Ministry will pay close attention to it. He adds that Taiwan's supply chain is very resilient so there should not be a big impact regardless.
