Every year, thousands of cyclists embark on a 95-kilometer journey through Taichung’s mountains and along its coastline, enjoying delicious dishes from temples along the route. This is Taichung’s annual “everyone bikes” Matsu bike ride, where Matsu statues, carried by luxury cars, lead the pack. In March 2025, the event will celebrate its 14th edition, and its organizers are eager for you to sign up.
To warm up for the event, temple representatives held a press conference last week, inviting riders to join the big event. Fengyuan’s Zennching Temple head Yang Shao-sen (楊紹森) highlighted some of the local specialties served at the event, including delicious soup noodles and seafood porridge.
Dajia Jenn Lann Temple head Cheng Ming-kun (鄭銘坤) says that every temple is prepared with food offerings and that there will be police and ambulances along the route to ensure riders’ safety. He says safety is the priority so that everyone can enjoy the beauty of Taichung.
The event is an opportunity to experience the religious and cultural traditions of Taichung, making it an ideal event for families. Hsieh Ming-ju (謝明儒) of Taichung’s Sports Bureau says he hopes that by visiting the temples along the route, children can understand the significance of Matsu and religious beliefs.
So, if you’re up for the full 95km challenge, or just want to enjoy some culture and specialty dishes, this bike event offers an interesting way to explore Taichung’s beauty.
