Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) said that Taiwan is facing new global dynamics in light of the recent U.S. presidential election during a meeting with the Taiwanese Association of America delegation on Wednesday.
Cho said that Taiwan's presidential election earlier this year marked a significant win for democracy, just as the recently concluded U.S. election has. Cho expressed confidence that the U.S. would continue its role in leading democratic countries against authoritarianism.
In preparation for the changes, Cho announced the formation of a task force, led by Vice Premier Cheng Li-chiun (鄭麗君), to strengthen Taiwan-U.S. ties. The task force has one month to propose proactive measures focused on trade, defense, technological collaboration, and people-to-people exchanges to enhance cooperation with the incoming U.S. administration.
Premier Cho also emphasized Taiwan's responsibility for regional self-defense within the Indo-Pacific and its critical role in the global supply chain. Cho said secure energy policies and a favorable environment for investment and high-tech industry growth, particularly for Taiwan’s semiconductor sector, are vital to regional and global stability.
