Taiwan’s envoy to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) annual summit Lin Hsin-i (林信義) met with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Thursday while in Lima, Peru.
U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Daniel Kritenbrink confirmed the meeting during a press briefing. He said that economic cooperation between Taiwan and the United States was discussed. Kritenbrink emphasized that Taiwan, participating under the name “Chinese Taipei,” annually engages with U.S. officials at APEC.
Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry also confirmed the meeting saying that Lin and Blinken exchanged views on enhancing bilateral partnerships, ensuring regional peace and stability, and fostering prosperity and development in Taiwan and its allied nations.
Lin later met with APEC Voices of the Future youth representatives and announced that upcoming talks with four to five other nations have also been scheduled.
Lin is currently serving as a senior advisor to the president and previously served as Taiwan’s economics minister and deputy premier.
