On Friday, an annual conference on information security was held by the Taiwan Computer Emergency Response Team Coordination Center (TWCERT/CC). Key representatives from companies like TSMC, Foxconn, and ASUS attended the conference hosted by the National Institute for Cybersecurity (NICS), which operates under the Digital Affairs Ministry.
Deputy Minister Herming Chiueh (闕河鳴) highlighted the ministry's efforts to bolster cybersecurity in private enterprises not covered by the Cyber Security Management Act. Over 1,600 organizations now benefit from 24/7 incident reporting, intelligence sharing, and response coordination. Chiueh noted that while cyberattacks on Taiwan have grown more sophisticated since 2022, enhanced government efforts have strengthened system resilience.
Amendments to the Cybersecurity Act, currently under legislative review, aim to empower agencies to mobilize resources across departments during emergencies. Meanwhile, the National Security Council is working to establish a cybersecurity response center.
Chiueh stressed the critical role of private enterprises, especially tech leaders like TSMC, whose workforce equals the combined size of Taiwan’s central and local government employees. Public-private collaboration, he said, is essential for securing supply chains and enhancing national competitiveness.
NICS President Ho Chuan-te (何全德) underscored the conference's goal of uniting industry, government, academia, and research to strengthen Taiwan’s digital resilience and cybersecurity capabilities.
