Taiwan is home to a large number of avian species, with the fall and winter arrival of migratory birds especially delighting birdwatchers.
As autumn and winter arrive in Taiwan, the coastal wetlands of Chiayi County once again welcome many species of migratory birds. Due to the success of recent ecological restoration plans, Taiwan has attracted more than a thousand additional black-faced spoonbills and great egrets to spend the winter every year.
The Chiayi County Government’s Tourism Administration has launched bird-watching itineraries for the Aogu Wetlands and Forest Park and Butai Salt Fields, well-known areas to view our feathered friends.
Chiayi County Mayor Weng Chang-liang (翁章梁) encourages visiting the Chiayi salt pans, estuaries, and wetlands to observe the ecology of migratory species. Other activities to combine with bird-watching include village clam farming, boat rides, fishing, milkfish ball making, and many more handicrafts.
Whether you attend by yourself or join a tour group, don’t let Chiayi County's bird-watching opportunities fly away.
