Medical units from the Taiwanese Military will be participating in the Healthcare+ Expo this year to showcase advanced medical technologies. Organized by the Institute for Biotechnology and Medicine Industry (IBMI), the expo will take place this Thursday through Sunday at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, gathering hundreds of exhibitors at the cutting edge of healthcare technology.
The Defense Ministry’s Medical Affairs Bureau (MAB) plans to send 14 representatives from the National Defense Medical Center, various military hospitals, and armed forces medical equipment suppliers to participate in the exhibition. There, they will showcase advances in topics such as combat wound treatment under enemy fire, aviation physiology training, and tactical and disaster drone rescue.
Of these topics, drone rescue was developed by personnel at the Hualien Armed Forces General Hospital, who applied knowledge gained through the 2024 Hualien earthquake and the train derailment at Xin-Heren Tunnel in June. MAB Medical Planning Department Head Dr. Wu Yu-Chiuan (吳育全) said that drones have previously been used for disaster response as well as reconnaissance, including AI identification of personnel, geographical locations, and signs of life.
The Defense Ministry said it intends to use this opportunity to demonstrate the effectiveness of the military’s smart medical care. At the same time, it said it hopes the expo will serve as a platform to enable domestic and foreign professionals and the public to gain a deeper understanding of Taiwan’s latest developments in epidemic prevention, specialty medical care, and biotechnology research and development.
