The 28th Taiwan-France Cultural Award, organized by Taiwan’s Culture Ministry and France’s Académie des Sciences Morales et Politiques (Academy of Moral Science and Politics) has announced this year’s winners. It has honored Jean-Marc Thérouanne, co-founder of the Vesoul International Film Festival of Asian Cinema, and Benson Tsai (蔡博丞), artistic director of Taiwan’s B.DANCE production team.
The ministry says the selection process was chaired by Taiwan's Culture Minister Lee Yuan (李遠) and Académie Vice President Jean-Robert Pitte. The winners were chosen through thorough deliberations by a bilateral jury and officially approved by the Académie’s committee.
Thérouanne is recognized for his 30-year leadership of Europe’s oldest Asian film festival. He has also promoted Taiwanese cinema in France by showcasing 80 Taiwanese films and publishing extensive commentary on the nation’s film industry. His efforts have significantly increased the visibility of Taiwanese culture in Europe.
Tsai is an award-winning choreographer and has elevated Taiwan’s global presence in contemporary dance through his innovative works, including “Floating Flowers” and “Rage.” His contributions have strengthened Taiwan-Europe cultural exchanges and bolstered Taiwan’s performing arts on the international stage.
The Taiwan-France Cultural Award was established in 1996 and celebrates individuals or organizations advancing Taiwan-Europe cultural collaboration in fields including film, dance, literature, and music between Taiwan and Europe.
