South Korean Representative to Taiwan Lee Eun-ho led a delegation to visit the Ocean Affairs Council (OAC) on Wednesday. OAC Minister Kuan Bi-ling (管碧玲)personally met and had in-depth discussions with the delegation on cooperation and development in marine affairs between Taiwan and South Korea.
Kuan said that next year, South Korea will host the Our Ocean Conference and the APEC Oceans Related Ministerial Meeting, two of the most important international events promoting sustainable development of the world’s oceans. Through these platforms, Taiwan expects to carry out innovative collaborations with the international community on issues such as marine conservation and waste management.
The OCA’s National Academy of Marine Research has been negotiating cooperation with institutions such as the Korea Maritime Institute and the Korea Institute of Marine Science and Technology, Kuan said. It has already signed a memorandum of understanding with the Korea Maritime Education Research Institute and the National Marine Biodiversity Research Institute. She said she hopes that the two sides will deepen cooperation and data sharing to promote sustainable development in regional oceans and to cope with future challenges.
Lee acknowledged the OAC’s achievements, promising to encourage relevant Korean institutions to participate in order to further expand bilateral partnership between Taiwan and South Korea.
