Complete with a diving mask, snorkel, and diving suit, the popular mechanical Tyrannosaurus rex at the National Museum of Natural Science in Taichung is sporting a new outfit this winter.
This scuba-saurus wardrobe change was chosen by netizens, and designed by Shih Chien University fashion design professors and students. The team didn’t forget to create a costume for the neighboring T-rex, which is now a mermaid.
Shih Chien University College of Design Dean Hsu Feng-yu (許鳳玉) says that with an abundance of waste in the ocean, this cosplay can act as a reminder for people to do their part in protecting the environment.
Wang Si-hao (王思豪), a Shih Chien University teacher, says the whole project from idea to completion took nearly two months.
The T-rex has had a diverse selection of clothes, including everything from a student uniform to Christmas attire. The museum welcomes guests to visit anytime between now and February 2025 to get a closer look.
