On January 1, 2025, the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) released a music video titled “Zhong Guo Ren (Chinese People)” on its official WeChat account. The video featured footage of PLA drills around Taiwan, and Olympic table tennis champion Ma Long (馬龍) visiting Taiwan, among other scenes.

Speaking at the Legislature’s Foreign Affairs and National Defense Committee on Thursday, Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) described the video as a classic example of united front tactics and cognitive warfare. Lin stated that the PLA aims to intimidate Taiwan while simultaneously showcasing cross-strait exchanges.

Lin emphasized President Lai's visits to Pacific allies and his transit through the United States last year. He noted that the Foreign Ministry's diplomatic initiatives have received high praise from allies and like-minded nations. According to him, these efforts have led to significant diplomatic achievements.

Lin also revealed that he recently chaired the Foreign Ministry’s North America regional meeting in the United States. He plans to focus on collaborating with subnational organizations, such as Taiwanese-American associations and business groups, which hold grassroots influence and play a key role in shaping U.S. policies. He emphasized that the ministry will balance engagements with the White House and regional or non-political organizations.
