The Labor Ministry on Monday released a set of guidelines to help migrant workers and their employers understand their rights around pregnancy, childbirth, and childcare. The guidelines aim to comprehensively cover the four major stages of pre-pregnancy, pregnancy, post-birth, and child care, providing detailed information and protection measures.

The Labor Ministry’s Workforce Development Agency says that migrant workers may face challenges in pregnancy, childbirth, childcare and other needs while working in Taiwan. Since 2022 they have established consultation service centers in Taoyuan City, Changhua County, and Kaohsiung City aiming to provide workers in Taiwan with integrated services.

The Labor Ministry has worked alongside the Health and Welfare Ministry, the Immigration Agency and other relevant departments to create multilingual versions of the guidelines in Chinese, English, Thai, Vietnamese, and Indonesian. Visual resources such as infographics have also been designed to make the information more accessible. The guidelines cover everything from contraception and medical care before pregnancy to workplace protections during pregnancy and childcare leave after birth.

Migrant workers can also call the 1955 hotline or the maternal care counseling hotline for assistance. The Labor Ministry encourages migrant workers, employers, and agencies to make use of the guidelines, which are accessible on the Workforce Development Agency website.
