Famed actor and YouTube creator Teeradetch Metawarayut, who also goes by Alek, will serve as the 2025 Taiwanese tourism ambassador to Thailand. The Thai Channel 3 star was invited by the Tourism Administration and will be featured in a short promotional video in hopes of attracting more Thai tourists.
The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand’s Tourism Division announced their 2025 selection of Alek through a press release issued this Wednesday. Alek is known for his leading roles in films such as Chinatown Chacha and Khaen Rak Salap Chata, as well as his work on Thailand’s first commercial TV station, Channel 3. Alek has amassed followings of over 500,000 on YouTube and nearly five million on Instagram.
In the upcoming promotional video “Taiwan(na) Go with Me?” Alek will play the role of an internet celebrity, Wave, as he navigates a career bottleneck and finds inspiration after visiting Taiwan. The plot will follow the character as he explores six major counties and cities across Taiwan, including Cijin Beach in Kaohsiung, Tainan’s Guanziling and Anping Old Street, the Janfusun Fancyworld amusement park, and more.
Tourism Division Thailand Office Director Cindy Chen (陳憶婷) highlighted Wave’s journey as one that would allow audiences to uncover the more unseen destinations in addition to rediscovering one’s unseen self.
Alek commented on his shooting itinerary, noting that it was his third trip to Taiwan, and several of the destinations were completely new to him. Alek added that many Thai tourists enjoy travelling around Taipei, but that he found many places across Taiwan also worth exploring.
The promotional video will be featured on the Tourism Administration’s YouTube channel and Facebook account in nine-minute, one-minute, and 30-second versions. Audiences will also be exposed to the video as it’s broadcasted on electronic billboards and at travel exhibitions.
