Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳) said recently that the company is looking for a suitable site to expand operations in Taiwan, potentially as an overseas headquarters. It is rumored that the former site of the Taipei First Funeral Parlor may be a possible location, but market insiders have said that the larger Nangang Marshalling Yard is the more likely choice.

During an interview on Thursday morning, Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) said that Taipei warmly welcomes international companies looking to set up offices in the city. As the head of the Taipei City Government’s newly established cross-departmental team for this purpose, he said that he personally supervises the process. Chiang explained he has been communicating closely with Nvidia and added that he believes Taipei would be the most suitable place for their overseas headquarters.

Huang will return to Taiwan on January 17 to attend Nvidia’s Lunar New Year year-end party and peruse the local night markets. Chiang said he will accompany Huang, and that he is eager for the opportunity to take Huang and his team on a tour around the city to prove it would be the ideal place for the Nvidia office.

Nvidia is a major supplier of software, graphics processing units, advanced programming interfaces, and other cutting edge technology. Huang will most likely announce Nvidia’s Taiwan headquarters location at the next Taipei International Computer Show (COMPUTEX), according to Economic Minister J.W. Kuo (郭智輝).
