Since 6 a.m. Sunday through 6 a.m. Monday morning, six Chinese warships and four Chinese aircraft were detected around the Taiwan Strait, according to the Defense Ministry. Three of the four aircraft crossed the median line, entering Taiwan’s southwest and eastern airspace.
Two Chinese balloons were also active during this time frame. The ministry indicated that the first balloon was detected at 8:35 a.m. Sunday about 91 nautical miles southwest of Keelung flying at an altitude of 18,000 feet. The second balloon was detected shortly after at 9:17 a.m. about 119 nautical miles southwest of Keelung flying at the same altitude. Both balloons disappeared within a half hour of being spotted.
The Ministry released a diagram on Sunday afternoon depicting the PLA’s air activities in Taiwan’s vicinity. Two helicopters and two fighter jets were observed in Taiwan’s southwest and eastern airspace and in the airspace of the Taiwan Strait, respectively. Taiwan’s Army carefully monitored these activities using mission aircraft, ships, and shore-based missile systems.
