New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih (侯友宜) visited the New Taipei City Hospital (NTCH) on Lunar New Year’s Eve this Tuesday to greet staff who were working on the holiday. Hou also fielded questions regarding the recent wave of recall campaigns across Taiwan.
On Tuesday morning, Mayor Hou arrived at NTCH to distribute red envelopes, expressing his regrets that the doctors and nurses on duty had to work during the holidays and wishing the team peace, health, and prosperity.

When asked by the media what he thought about the wave of recall campaigns across Taiwan that has continued uninterrupted by the Lunar New Year holiday, Hou responded by saying everyone should be happy during the holiday, emphasizing that Taiwan needs cooperation and teamwork. Hou said he doesn’t like to see recall campaigns used in this way, and said people should do fewer “meaningless” things.
Hou added that everyone is like one family, and underlined each person wanting the best for Taiwan regardless of political party affiliation. He stated that he hopes the Legislature and Cabinet can play their respective roles, working together to make Taiwan a better place.
