Traditionally, the festival marks the fifteenth day of the lunar new year and the first full moon. The celebrations promoted across Taiwan are about two weeks long, and feature some handmade lanterns as well as a wide variety of high-tech ones bearing different designs and images.
The Lantern Festival is one of the most popular and anticipated events of the year. The festival will take place in several cities, including Taipei, Taoyuan, Taichung, Taitung and Kaohsiung, but on different dates. Information is available online about individual events.
