Taiwan is preparing for another intense cold surge starting on Friday. Snowfall is expected at elevations as low as 1,500 meters in the northern region. This follows the first cold wave, which arrived on Tuesday, signaling the beginning of the Spring Festival work period.

While today's cold front is gradually weakening, meteorological officials warn that the incoming surge will be more severe, expected to last until next week. The Central Weather Administration (CWA) forecasts temperatures dropping to between 9 and 11 degrees Celsius in the northern and Yilan-Hualien regions, with other areas experiencing 11 to 12 degrees lows during the weekend.

Residents in northern Taiwan, particularly in areas from Taoyuan northward and the eastern regions, should prepare for occasional showers. The combination of low temperatures and moisture creates favorable conditions for snowfall, with mountains above 3,000 meters likely to see scattered snow from Thursday to Friday. The snow line could drop to as low as 1,500 meters in northeastern mountainous areas.

By Monday, temperatures are expected to rise to 20 degrees Celsius during the day. The warmer weather coincides with the Lantern Festival celebrations, though residents should be cautious of significant temperature variations between day and night.
