Since September 2024, Taipei Veterans General Hospital has been collaborating with Taiwan’s allied island nation St. Kitts and Nevis on the Mental Health Service System Enhancement Project. The project aims to strengthen policy, healthcare personnel capacity, accessibility, and public awareness around mental healthcare.
St. Kitts and Nevis Health Services Administrator and Deputy Registrar General Ms. Shelisa Martin Clarke and oncologist Dr. Merisa Grant-Tate visited Taipei Veterans General Hospital this Tuesday. They toured the psychiatric acute ward, day wards for adults and adolescents, and Precision Depression Intervention Center. Impressed by the facilities, they expressed their hope to enhance the mental healthcare services at St. Kitts and Nevis.
Hospital Deputy Superintendent Dr. Lee Wui-Chiang (李偉強) says they have established a strong working relationship with St. Kitts and Nevis this past decade, particularly in the fields of chronic kidney disease and metabolic diseases. Last September, they expanded into psychiatry, leveraging their expertise and top-ranked physicians. The hospital is now training mental healthcare professionals from St. Kitts and Nevis and providing a reference for relevant policy-making.
