Famed Hakka writer Li Qiao (李喬) is joining an effort to recall KMT legislator and fellow Miaoli native Chiu Cheng-chun (邱鎮軍) in the latest wave of recall campaigns. Miaoli’s civil group for the removal of legislators said in a post on their Facebook page Thursday morning that Li has stepped up to serve as the group’s leader for Miaoli County’s Second Constituency.
The 90-year-old author made a statement saying Taiwan’s hard-won democracy must not be undermined and that when legislators fail to serve their constituents, the people must stand up and resist. Recall is a democratic tool, Li said, and a necessary means to defend the will of the voters.
Li is one of hundreds of Taiwanese authors to make statements supporting the removal of legislators who are part of the KMT and Taiwan People’s Party (TPP) coalition responsible for slashing the 2025 central government budget.
