The Environment Ministry announced Tuesday that it is forming an alliance to support the Net-Zero Green Life, part of the 12 key strategies of the Taiwan Net-Zero Emissions by 2050 transformation initiative. Environment Minister Peng Chi-ming (彭啓明) expressed his hope that the alliance will encourage companies to share green living solutions and more sustainable business operations.
The ministry has brought together more than 20 institutions from industry, academia, and research, calling on them to exchange ideas, promote green practices among employees, and raise public awareness. In a move that has been widely criticized, they have been urging the hospitality industry to avoid providing disposable items since January 1 this year. Peng says promoting net-zero practices must involve public-private collaboration and more creative solutions.
Director of the ministry’s Comprehensive Planning Department Hung Shu-hsing (洪淑幸) says that in addition to enabling stakeholders to match the supply and demand of green living, the alliance will also hold forums on topics such as sustainability departments and green tourism; there will also be exhibitions showcasing the alliance’s achievements and expanding environmental practices.
Hung explained that membership to the alliance is free and that an advisory committee is available for guidance. In addition, a meeting will be held every six months for consultations and the opportunity to integrate members’ opinions.
