Executive Director of the Alliance of Democracies Foundation (AoD) and former diplomat for Denmark Jonas Parello-Plesner recently published a book called “The Battle for Taiwan,” an analysis on Taiwan’s current geopolitical situation and its importance in the current security environment. He presented his work at the Czech Hub in Taiwan on Wednesday evening.
In publishing the book, Parello-Plesner expressed his hope to make more people in the world aware of the challenges Taiwan faces. He said he was initially inspired by comments made by former Digital Minister Audrey Tang (唐鳳), who in 2022 discussed the Russian invasion of Ukraine and issues related to cyber resilience. As the third anniversary of the invasion approaches, he lamented that the U.S. seems poised to abandon its support for Ukraine.
Parello-Plesner said he explores the question of whether Taiwan is ready for war from several perspectives in his book and believes Taiwan could benefit from being better prepared. He also mentioned that he has invited Taiwanese guests to attend the AoD’s Copenhagen Democracy Summit.
