With Taiwan’s Indonesian community growing, Radio Taiwan International (Rti) on Thursday held its first journalism workshop in collaboration with the Indonesia Economic and Trade Office to Taipei (KDEI Taipei), The Indonesian Students Association in Taiwan (PPI Taiwan), and the digital media platform IDN Times. The event aimed to strengthen communication between Taiwan and Indonesia.

According to the Labor Ministry, the number of Indonesian migrant workers, new immigrants, and students in Taiwan has exceeded 400,000, highlighting the increasing demand for accurate news and information.

Rti President Chang Jui-Chang (張瑞昌) stressed the growing challenge of misinformation and disinformation. He hoped the workshop would equip media professionals with a stronger understanding of journalistic ethics and ensure reliable news sources for both Taiwanese and Indonesian communities.

Arif Sulistiyo, KDEI Taipei head, thanked Rti for organizing the event, believing it would help participants share factual news, educate Indonesians in Taiwan on local laws, and protect them from scams, ultimately fostering stronger bilateral ties.

PPI Taiwan Chair Febriyanti Rukmana also spoke at the event, emphasizing the importance of media literacy in today’s social media-driven world. She expressed her enthusiasm for the workshop as a valuable opportunity for attendees to enhance their understanding of responsible journalism.
