New Tuvalu Ambassador Lily Tangisia Faavae presented a copy of her credentials to Taiwan Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) Thursday morning, after which the two representatives exchanged views on deepening cooperation in various fields between their respective countries. The Foreign Ministry detailed their meeting in a press release on Friday.
Lin sincerely welcomed Faavae to her new post and expressed his appreciation for her support for Taiwan at the World Health Assembly as Tuvalu’s Ministry of Health, Social Welfare, and Gender Affairs Permanent Secretary.
He also shared that when he accompanied President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) on his Austronesian islands tour last year, he received a warm reception from the Tuvaluan government and people and felt the sincere friendship between the two nations.
Faavae replied that she felt honored to be an ambassador and will continue to promote cooperation in various fields and a deepened Taiwan-Tuvalu friendship. Citing her experience as Permanent Secretary, she praised Taiwan's medical standards and the jointly implemented medical programs for greatly improving Tuvalu’s medical standards and people's well-being over the years.
The ministry emphasized that Ambassador Faavae has extensive experience in public service in Tuvalu, having served in the Tuvalu Parliament, the Prime Minister's Office, and the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare. Her dispatch to Taiwan fully demonstrates that Tuvalu attaches great importance to the friendship between the nations. Taiwan and Tuvalu have cooperated closely in various fields including medicine, agriculture, fisheries, clean energy, information and communications technology, and talent cultivation, enhancing citizens’ well-being in both countries.
