Human rights, democracy and technology leaders from civil society, the private sector, government agencies, academia and media organizations will convene this week for the thirteenth edition of RightsCon. Founded in Silicon Valley, the world conference on human rights in a digital age will take place for the first time in Taiwan from February 24th to the 27th.

This year, more than 550 sessions were organized to promote dialogue and build strategies that contribute towards a more free, open and continually connected world. These include roundtables, workshops and panels highlighting AI governance, cybersecurity, social media, mobile technology, digital rights, disinformation, censorship and other engaging topics.

The high-level event will also feature thousands of participants, who will join online and in person, from organizations as diverse as the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI), the University of Oxford, Data Privacy Brasil and SafeOnline Women Kenya. In addition, Meredith Whitaker, President of Signal, and Lorraine Finlay, Human Rights Commissioner of Australia, will deliver keynote speeches along with many other prominent speakers.

Taiwan is a leader in technology and defending human rights in Asia. As a vibrant democracy that has thrived in the face of challenges, it offers the potential to take on a particularly important role in advancing human rights and technology in a world with an increasingly authoritarian outlook.
