Five crew members have been rescued by Coast Guard patrol after their fishing vessel caught fire and sank while operating in Pengjia Islet waters on Sunday. The boat captain and one other crew member are still unaccounted for.
The “Sanxie Shun 26”, registered in the HuangGang Fishing Harbor in Jinshan District, New Taipei City, went out to sea on February 26. At 6:17 p.m. on Sunday, March 2, the Coast Guard Administration (CGA) received a report that the Sanxie had caught fire, rapidly disabling and sinking the boat roughly 90 nautical miles northeast of Pengija. In addition to the 41-year-old captain surnamed Jian, six Indonesian crew members were on board.
The CGA immediately dispatched multiple vessels to the area for the rescue operation. At the time of reporting, five crew members have been found alive, with the search still ongoing for the missing captain and last crew member.
