The Education Ministry has expanded the scope of subsidies for non-formal education certification to include new immigrants as well as people with disabilities. Those who qualify can apply for a maximum of NT$6000 (USD$183) in tuition subsidies annually.

These demographics, along with Taiwanese Indigenous peoples, those from low-income households, and people aged 55 or older who have not completed compulsory education, can submit applications through March 15. Tsai Chung-wu (蔡忠武), director of the Department of Lifelong Education’s Adult and Community Education Section, reminded those eligible to submit their applications within one year of completing a course and obtaining the credit certificate.

Tsai explained that the expansion encompasses a broader definition of new immigrants, including foreign investors, technical workers, long-term residents from Hong Kong, Macao, and China, and others in addition to those who gained residency through marriage. Regarding those with disabilities, any person who holds a disability certificate or disability student identification certificate issued by the relevant authorities can now apply.

Per the ministry’s statistics, 189 institutions were certified to provide more than 400 non-formal education courses between 2022 and 2024. To encourage universities to provide more flexible admission opportunities, requirements were adjusted such that any person aged 22 or older who has accumulated more than 40 credits in certified courses will be able to apply.
