Gourmet eats fuel runners as Tainan’s Half Marathon serves up a feast for those on the go.

The annual Tainan Half Marathon kicked off at dawn last Sunday, attracting over 20,000 participants. But what set this race apart wasn’t the scenic course around Tainan City – it was the feast along the way.

Aid stations went above and beyond, offering gourmet refreshments, including lobster, roast chicken, and even roasted pig and pork knuckles. While some competitive runners sped past, others couldn’t resist indulging mid-run.

One vendor said they were considering offering Michelin-starred local dishes in next year’s run to support the runners since Tainan is also known as a food capital.

At the end of the race, a Kenyan runner claimed first place, with Taiwan’s Chen Chen-jung (陳鎮榮) coming in second. But whatever the pace, participants learned that in Tainan, you don’t just chase a personal best – you chase the best bites!
