As of Wednesday, legislative recall petitions have passed the first phase for a total of 32 KMT legislators. UMC Founder Robert Tsao (曹興誠) and other public figures and civil groups spearheading the recall held a press conference to announce the official launch of the second phase, which requires more than 10% of the total number of voters in the original electoral district to cosign within 60 days.
Tsao, along with DPP legislator Puma Shen (沈伯洋) YouTube creators Pa Chiung (八炯) and Mannam PYC (閩南狼PYC), and volunteers from recall advocacy groups all took part in the press conference. Tsao said that while the KMT wishes to shift the focus and frame the impeachment effort as a “blue-green showdown,” the recall is not meant to incite partisan conflict but to protect Taiwan by ousting KMT legislators who effectively have already surrendered to the Chinese Communist Party. Shen announced that a website has been established to enable the public to add their signatures.
Meanwhile, Taipei City Councilor Liu Tsai-wei (柳采葳) said that the KMT has compiled evidence showing that some of the civil group members have instructed the public how to fundraise in a manner that circumvents the Political Donations Act. She and other KMT legislators have called upon the Control Yuan to investigate whether certain civil groups have been illegally raising funds and accepting political donations.
