Rti and the Taiwan Defense Ministry’s Political Warfare Bureau ink an MOU to enhance national defense outreach, boost media literacy, and counter misinformation.
Radio Taiwan International (Rti) and the Defense Ministry’s Political Warfare Bureau (PWB) signed a memorandum of understanding on Thursday afternoon at Rti’s headquarters. The partnership aims to enhance the representation of Taiwan’s armed forces, promote national defense awareness, and strengthen international influence.
Under the agreement, Rti will provide its multilingual hosts to assist the ministry in producing defense-related programs and improving multilingual outreach. In return, the ministry will authorize Rti to use military-produced media content to broaden the reach and impact of national defense news.
Rti Chairperson Cheryl Lai (賴秀如) noted that the broadcasting group recently received Journalism Trust Initiative (JTI) certification from Reporters Without Borders (RSF), becoming the first news organization in the Chinese-speaking world to earn this recognition. Amid growing concerns over misinformation, Rti will collaborate with the ministry to ensure accurate international reporting.
PWB Head Lt. Gen. Chen Yu-lin (陳育琳) welcomed the partnership, emphasizing its role in deepening media literacy within the military, enhancing responses to cognitive warfare, and strengthening strategic international communication. She also highlighted Rti’s historical ties to the Defense Ministry, making this renewed collaboration particularly significant as this year marks the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and the conclusion of the Japanese occupation in Taiwan.
