The Foreign Ministry on Tuesday strongly refuted China’s latest claims regarding United Nations Resolution 2758. The ministry reiterates that China and Taiwan are not subordinate to each other and that the international community must stand up to misinterpretations of the resolution.

On Monday, the Chinese Foreign Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to "peaceful unification" and claimed that Resolution 2758 established Taiwan’s designation as a province of China within the UN.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hsiao Kuang-wei (蕭光偉) reiterates that Taiwan is an independent sovereign nation and says that the future of Taiwan is up to the 23.5 million Taiwanese people alone to decide. He adds that no attempts to misinterpret Taiwan's status would change the objective reality of cross-strait relations.

The ministry urges global leaders to recognize China’s legal maneuvering as a way to block international support by reframing Taiwan as an internal issue and calls for continued support to resist China’s efforts to alter the cross-strait status quo.
