Foodex Japan 2025, Asia’s largest professional food and beverage exhibition, opened on Tuesday for a four-day run. This year’s Taiwan Pavilion was jointly established by the Economic Ministry, Agriculture Ministry, the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), 14 county and city governments, and 11 food industry associations. Taiwan is the second-largest exhibiting country at the event, with a total of 193 companies and 196 booths participating, setting a new record in scale.

Trade data shows Japan is Taiwan’s third-largest food export market, with exports exceeding USD 640 million in 2024, accounting for 13.2% of Taiwan’s total food exports. Japan is also Taiwan’s fourth-largest source of imported food, highlighting the close trade ties between the two countries in the food sector.

Deputy Economic Minister Cynthia Kiang (江文若) said that this year, an area at the Taiwan Pavilion has been dedicated to promoting the “Taiwan Select” brand to help small and medium-sized enterprises expand into overseas markets. This effort includes partnerships with international food distributors and plans to expand into the U.S., Australia, and Singapore.

The International Trade Administration also said that Taiwanese manufacturers are showcasing innovative ready-to-eat foods that blend traditional local flavors with convenience. This allows consumers to enjoy authentic Taiwanese cuisine anytime, anywhere.

The event is expected to attract over 5,000 professional buyers to the Taiwan Pavilion.
