Kaohsiung’s traffic signals just got a makeover, proving even road safety can have a little flair.

The next time you go to Kaohsiung City, you might want to pay attention to the pedestrian lights. One might say, Tall Bear, Kaohsiung’s official mascot, has stolen the spotlight.
Pedestrian signal lights on Gongyuan Second Road, Haibian Road, and Wufu Road feature the adorable black bear and Takao, the TSG Hawks’ mascot. Kaohsiung’s Transportation Bureau says that the initiative is meant to enhance the city’s image.
This isn’t the first time that traffic signals have become a talking point. Last year, when artist Florentijn Hofman's Rubber Duck installations returned to the city, eight intersections featured the duck in its signal lights.
Chiayi, famous for its turkey rice, has also joined the trend with turkey-themed signals that change color with the lights.
All in all, these signals serve to show that road safety can be un-bear-ably cute!
