Two Taiwanese citizens have been charged by the Royal Malaysia Police on Thursday for involvement in an international drug trafficking syndicate. According to local media, the Taiwanese were two of five defendants arrested during raids between March 6 and 11 this year, during which illegal substances worth RM12.93 million (US$2.9 million) were also seized.
The defendants, including the two Taiwanese surnamed Peng and Liu, were found in hidden laboratories containing large amounts of drugs, drug manufacturing equipment, and chemicals.
The case will be heard on June 19, pending chemical test reports. The maximum sentence for drug trafficking in Malaysia is the death penalty, with lesser sentences including life imprisonment and/or caning.
