WATCH: Kaohsiung’s fish market gets a makeover
Massive fresh king crabs, oysters, clams, and frozen A5 Wagyu steak are available to barbecue at the new location.

What was once Kaohsiung’s fish market has now been renovated into an all-new experience for international cuisine lovers across Taiwan.

Massive fresh king crabs, oysters, clams, and frozen A5 Wagyu steak are all ingredients ready for customers to choose from at the new Shinhamacho Cuisine Hub in Kaohsiung.

Shimizu Taishi, the BBQ restaurant’s president, welcomes customers to choose what they would like to be grilled from their wide selection of surf and turf. The recent opening marks the Tokyo restaurant’s first international location.

The space, formerly the Gushan Fish Market, has been renovated to include 15 distinct food and beverage vendors, including the barbecue restaurant, a curry chain to be found nowhere else in Taiwan, and a well-known shop from Hokkaido.

The new facility is surrounded by multiple art installations as well as some greenery and a first-row view of the harbor where ferries can be seen coming and going.
